Overview
This document describes the order and procedure for design and installation of a Savant Power System. The detailed design, method, and type of installation can vary greatly between individual systems. It is the responsibility of the installer to read all relevant documentation, and to follow the steps of Savant Power System installation relevant to the equipment in use.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- These sections are listed in the order they must be completed in.
- Refer to the Installation section below to view critical install and wiring documentation for Savant Power products, which must be read and understood before beginning any physical installation.
- To view a corresponding resource list for installation of Savant Power products within the context of a larger Savant smart home system, refer to the Savant Power Documentation Portal on the Savant Community (requires Savant Dealer login).
Power System Passthrough Procedure
To place the Savant Power Inverter in passthrough mode - allowing grid power to function normally during shutdown or isolation of the Savant Power System in case of emergency or during system troubleshooting, refer to the Savant Power Storage Passthrough Procedure Guide.
Power System Startup Procedure
IMPORTANT: Before beginning installation, all installers must read and understand the Savant Power Storage Inverter Startup Procedure. This process MUST be followed during intial system startup. Failure to follow the documented startup process may result in damage to or failure of the system.
Glossary of Terms
The following terms may be used within the documentation linked below. Installers should be familiar with their meaning within the context of a Savant Power system:
- Automatic Transfer Switch - An optional switch that allows power to be routed between the Emergency and Normal Loads depending on availability and the needs of the Savant Power System. Recommended for certain types of system design, particularly those including a generator.
- Circuit - All loads connected to a breaker within a breaker panel.
- Device - A Director, Panel Bridge Controller, and SmartEnergy Controller discoverable in the Savant Power & Light App.
- Dedicated Circuits - A circuit to which user-entered wattage is provided even when an Energy Scene restricting energy usage is active.
- Energy Scene - A set of installer or user load restrictions occurring on the fly or during set conditions.
- Home - The Savant Power System represented within either the Savant Power & Light app or the Savant app.
- Power Source - An energy storage system such as generator, microgrid, or battery that is configured to provide power to the Savant Power System when access to the grid is lost.
- Normal Load - A source of electricity routed through the Automatic Transfer Switch that provides power to the Savant Power System under ordinary circumstances.
- Emergency Load - The grid or power source that will provide power to the Savant Power System once
- Live Load - Total load of the whole Home.
- Main Distribution Panel (MDP) - The breaker panel that receives power directly from the grid.
- Sub Panel - Any additional panel that receives power from the MDP or other additional panel.
Design
The documents listed below are intended to assist the installer with the initial Design phase of Savant Power System installation and deployment. This phase includes planning system architecture and panel layout, designing a three-line diagram, and obtaining Permission To Operate from the local utility.
NOTE: For systems including a Savant Power Storage 20, see the Savant Power Storage 20 Installation Guide for additional system design information.
