Overview
The EV Charger Service provides intelligent monitoring and control of electric vehicle charging within a Savant Home using the Savant Lvl 2 EV Charger. It gives real-time visibility into charging activity, configurable charge modes, and historical usage tracking, while coordinating with the broader power system to maintain safe and efficient operation.
Installation Configurations
The required hardware depends on the desired level of functionality.
Standard Installation
- Functionality: Charging schedules, Charge rate adjustments
- Required Hardware: Savant Level 2 EV Charger
- Require Network Configuration: Static IP address reservation
Advanced Power-Managed Installation
- Functionality:
- Charging schedules
- Charge rate adjustments
- Load shedding for off-grid systems
- Load management for on-grid budgeted systems
- Required Hardware:
- Savant Level 2 EV Charger
- 60A Power Module (connected)
- Require Network Configuration: Static IP address reservation
Step 1: Physical Installation
The following guide assumes the Savant EV charger is already physically installed and paired to a 60A Power Module as outlined in the Savant LVL 2 EV Charger Installation Guide.
Step 2: Add the EV Charger to the Savant Home
The Savant EV Charger can be deployed within a Savant Home using one of two methods: the Savant Power & Light app (version 3.3 or later) for Directors deployed with SP&L, or Blueprint (version 11.2 or later) for Hosts deployed and programmed with Blueprint.
Method 1. Savant Power and Light App Setup
- While on a Home dashboard, tap the Add/remove devices tile, check the Savant Savant EV Charger box, then tap Save.
- Tap the EV charger tile, then tap + to add a Savant EV Charger to the configuration.
The SP&L app will discover and show all Savant EV Chargers on the network. - Once discovered, tap the EV Charger, then select Add.
- Tap > on the EV Charger to begin configuring the settings:
- Name the EV Charger, verify the IP Address is correct, and confirm the Device ID matches the device.
- Verify the Max Charge Rate is correct. This value is read from the EV Charger and is determined by its dip switch settings.
IMPORTANT NOTE!: If the Max Charge Rate is incorrect, delete the EV Charger from the SP&L app configuration and refer to the EV Charger Installation guide to confirm it has been installed correctly. - Tap Link to Panel to link the EV Charger to a Power Module. If no Power Module is used, select the breaker supplying power to the EV Charger.
NOTE: This is required for Homes that have a Partial Backup power source (Budgeted Systems). - Tap Next.
- Sync the config to the Director and continue setup in the Savant app.
Method 2: Blueprint Setup
- With an existing configuration, open the library.
- Search "SAV1656HW" and drag it into the Shared Equipment zone.

- Make an Ethernet connection to a Network switch port.

- Generate Services
- Navigate to Tools > Settings > EV Chargers and enter the information in the following fields.
- EVCharger Address: (6-character MAC address found in the ShuPower App).
- EVCharger IP Address
- Max Current (A)

- Select Done
- Navigate to Tools > Settings > Energy Monitor.
- Click on the Link column for the EV Charger to open the drop-down list and select the appropriate Power Module.

- Generate Services, then confirm that the EV Charger Service is shown in the View Services window.
- Upload the configuration to the Host and continue setup in the Savant app.
Step 3. Savant App Setup
Performed the following steps in the Savant app to link the ShuPower App account and the appropriate EV Chargers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Cloud access is only required for initial linking; it is not needed for continued operation.
- From the Savant app, connect to the Home.
- Navigate to Settings > Device Settings > Savant EV Charger.
- Tap + in the top-right to add the SchuPower account to Savant and link the EV Charger.
NOTE: When entering credentials, use the same SchuPower app username and password used during the physical installation process. Refer to the Savant LVL 2 EV Charger Installation Guide. - Tap Confirm to allow access.
