Requirements for a NOON Multi-Way Configuration

Installing NOON switching in a multi-way configuration does come with a few requirements. Continue reading to better prepare yourself prior to installing your NOON switches.

  • NOON switches can be installed on multi-way configurations of up to four switches.

  • All switches in a multi-way circuit must be replaced with NOON switches.

  • NOON requires all switches in a multi-way configuration to be wired hot (in a parallel circuit). 

  • Ground wires are required in all multi-way switch locations.

  • Neutral wires are required in all multi-way switch locations.*

  • 3-wire cables between multi-way switches are required, including two travelers and one common wire.

NOTE: For dead-end configured multi-way circuits, where one junction box does not have any neutral wires passing through, you can repurpose one of the travelers as a neutral (where code permits). See below for more details on how to install in this configuration:
