Savant Power System Compatibility Reference Guide
| Document Date: | December 2025 |
Overview
This document details compatibility and feature support considerations for first and third party battery storage solutions integrated with a Savant Power System.
Supported Savant Power Storage (PS20 / PS50) Configurations
The Savant Power Storage 20 and Power Storage 50 energy storage system (ESS) inverter and battery solutions support the widest range of features and configurations available when combined with a Savant smart panel (Power Director and Power Modules) or when integrated with a Savant smart home (Savant Host with Power Modules and Panel Bridge).
Partial and Whole Home Backup
Savant Power Storage supports partial and whole home backup configurations.
Solar
Savant Power Storage supports both DC coupled solar (up to 17kW each) and AC coupled solar (up to 12.5kW)*.
*See Power Storage 20 / Power Storage 50 Installation Manual for full DC and AC coupled solar design considerations.
Generator
Savant Power Storage supports AC standby hardwired generators with 2-wire start/stop capability.
NOTE: Portable generators are not supported at this time.
Generator ATS
The Generator ATS must have auxiliary (NC/NO) contacts to determine ATS position (only applicable when generator and grid are combined into the inverter GRID port).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- An added generator ATS is only required if the generator is landed on the grid input of Power Storage Inverter.
Solar Rapid Shutdown
Rapid shutdown devices that are certified with SunSpec are supported. Savant has tested with APSmart and Tigo TS4-F devices.
Battery
- Each battery stack requires at least 1 inverter. For additional solar and passthrough capability, up to 2 inverters can share 1 battery stack.
- Each battery stack must be populated with all battery modules (8 battery modules for PS20, 10 battery modules for PS50).
Scalability
Up to ten (10) Power Storage Inverters can be stacked in parallel for a single deployment. The solution will support up to 10 Power Storage 20 or 10 Power Storage 50 battery stacks. For larger systems, contact Savant Support.
Three Phase
Savant Power Storage does not support three phase capability at this time.
Network
Deployment of a Savant Power Storage system requires an onsite internet connection. Savant strongly recommends hardwiring the network connection for best results. In cases where Wi-Fi must be used, Savant recommends running ethernet cable temporarily for initial setup/firmware updates.

System Communication Requirements
In order for the Savant Power Director to integrate with third-party battery storage solutions, the Power Director and the battery inverter must communicate using the the Local Area Network or Power Director’s Local Access Point. The following types of communication are required depending on system type:
| Battery | Inverter Aux Contact -> Director GPIO (Grid State) | Cloud or Local API | Communication: RS-485 or Ethernet or Director AP | Savant Host & Controller Requirement | Notes |
|
Tesla | Recommended | Local | Ethernet (wired direct or through external switch) or via Director Access Point | Savant Host or Power Director | Requires Tesla Gateway/Controller Username & Password |
| Franklin |
Not supported | Cloud (Local API coming soon) | Battery, inverter, and Power Director must to be connected to the same Local Area Network. | Savant Host or Power Director | N/A |
| Enphase |

Third Party Battery Energy Monitoring
The Power Director receives information on the total consumption of the main feed, battery power, generator, and solar power from the battery inverter and reports it to the Savant app. In this case, the Current Track Module or Smart Energy Monitor is not required to monitor the main feed or power sources. However, a Current Track Module or Smart Energy Monitor can be used to monitor loads in the system that are not monitored by the inverter or Savant Power Modules.

Savant Flexible Load Management (FLM) with Generator Compatibility
The Savant Flexible Load Management system is compatible with all automatic generators with ATS auxiliary contacts to indicate switch position. When the Savant Flexible Load Management system is used with an automatic generator, the Power Modules will detect a grid outage using internal Zero Cross Detection and will immediately shed any non-critical loads. The system utilizes the position of the ATS (Grid or Emergency) to determine that the grid power has been restored. Upon grid restore, the ATS will qualify that grid power is stable and switch back to grid power. This will signal to the Power Module to restore power to their respective loads. (NOTE: system behavior upon grid restore can be modified during configuration if desired).
Grid Restore Detection Requirements
Grid restore detection is achieved by utilizing a set of auxiliary contacts in the ATS that change position (grid or emergency) and is connected to the GPIO on the Power Director. An example of an ATS with these contacts would be the ASCO 300 Series. Most ATS manufacturers, if not already present in the ATS, will have auxiliary contact kits that can be installed to provide the Savant Director with the ATS position. Contact the generator ATS manufacturer for more information.
In addition to using the ATS auxiliary contact to detect grid restore, use of a Current Track Module or a Smart Energy Monitor is required to monitor the main feed and report the total consumption of the home and generator output power. Savant also recommends Current Transformers (sized per the main feed), Current Track Modules, and a Smart Energy Monitor be installed into the main breaker panel.
Three Phase & Large Loads
The Savant Flexible Load Management system can support 120V/208V three phase loads or loads larger than 60A. This requires the following:
- A 20A Power Module
- Current Track Module or Smart Energy Monitor (SEM-2015)
- A contactor with 120V coil.
- Appropriate size/quantity of CTs (2 for 2-pole or 3 for 3-phase) rated for the size of the circuit(s)
The circuit is run from the circuit breaker through the contactor to the load. The 120V coil from the contactor is run through one of the channels on a 20A Power Module controlling the power to the coil, which opens and closes the circuit. There is no limit on circuit size; if the contactor has a 120V coil it can be controlled by a Savant Power Module.
Single Phase Loads
CTs used with either the Current Track Module or Smart Energy Monitor can be used to monitor and report the power useage to the Power Director.
Three Phase Loads
CTs used with the Smart Energy Monitor can be used to monitor and report the power usage to the Power Director.
NOTE: The Current Track Module cannot be used for three phase loads as it only supports 2 channels of monitoring.
